In a gesture of deep admiration, Lol 63 shapes a triptych of vessels, each dedicated to one of three extraordinary figures who have left an indelible mark on the cultural and artistic landscape.
The work intersects with the legacy of Patrizia Cavalli, Lea Vergine and Dorothy Iannone: told with an eloquent and penetrating stroke. Andrea Corvino’s symbolic alphabet engages in dialogue with resonant phrases appropriate from the repertoire and life stories of the personalities encountered. The vase, thus, becomes the object that bears the signs, engraved, of words and symbols, of portraits.
The individual piece retains a sense of its uniqueness while at the same time being part of a series of nine from the iconic 1970s forms. The stroke is not meant to be clean, but vibrant with color and texture. The exploration of repetition and variation becomes a medium that Andrea Corvino picks up from the attitude of writing and graphic design, so that the changes we see in ceramic production reconfirm themselves as cohesive to his artistic practice.
